TV Drama Homework
Because of my absence at school i missed the breifing on this homework so i will do what i think i have to do.
In this 3.37 minute scene, Barry is killed by Janine. i have chosen to write about this scene because it is as simple as it get's to be honest and because im not 100% sure what im doing i will write about this.
The scene is surrounded by hills, mountain tops and forest's, this tells the viewer that they are in the middle of no where and no-one can see or hear what they are doing, which add's a tension of suspicion.
With the characters wearing coat's and the sky being cloudy yet clear in areas, with the addition of the wind blowing in the background, this implys that it is a cold set.
The speech of the characters was very quick because of their regional accent, but they do tend to have 5 second intervals between replys to one an other, Barry is pouring is heart out to Janine who is trying to hurt him, you can tell this by their tone of voices; Barry having a soft quite voice to janine having a loud aggressive tone.
Camera Angles
Their are a variety of camera angles in this scene, however the most common is 'over the shoulder shot' to get a good view of who they are talking to and also to see the facial expression of the recievier of the speech.
At 2.06 minutes, when Janine pushes Barry over the edge, we get a shot of barry falling with Janine just above him, which clearly shows shes the one to blame for the incident. The viewer then gets a close up on Janines face which is in shock of what she has done, the facial expression of her face show's that she did not intend to push him over the edge and she looks quite frightend of the outcome of the fall. The viewer then continues to see a Point of View shot from Janines perspective, where she see's Barry against a rock, looking rather dead, you could see this clip has Janine looking and being dominent of this part of the scene because she is shown to be above Barry but this is not just because of the camera angle but also because of the acting.
As Janine walks down the hill towards Barry the viewer can hear diagetic sounds of Janine walking through the grass.
When Janine finally get's to Barry the scene's camera angles then start swapping between below view from Barry to a overview from Janines Point of view, this intends Janine's power is dominent over dieing Barry.
As the scene ends, we get a birds eye view of the surroundings which backs up my first point that the setting is in the countryside with no society.
(Note: sorry for briefness, hope this is along the lines what the teacher wanted)
